Salt Patties

Once upon a time, many moons ago I cooked up a batch of Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies.  A recipe that girls of our community learned in Home Economics class.  I was just a little kid when my sister Connie began making the delectable treats and now I can find 50 pounds of my being to dedicate to them.  Reading was something I had not quite mastered when I ventured into the kitchen to "cook".  So, long story short....I mistook the sugar for salt...thus the name, Salt Patties given to them by our darling brother in reference to the briny disaster in which I had concocted.  Here is the recipe....void of salt.

Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies

Before you get started, rip off a good long section of wax paper and put it out to spoon the cookie mixture on.
Also premeasure your oatmeal and peanut butter, so you can dump them right in.

Boil (I mean rolling boil) the following for two minutes STIRRING ALL THE TIME:
     2 cups sugar
     3 tablespoons cocoa
1 stick of butter or margarine  (do support the dairy farmers here!!)
     1/2 cup milk or Milnot

Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1 cup peanut butter and then 3 cups oatmeal.
Spoon quickly onto the wax paper.

Don't make them on a humid day....and leave the salt in the cabinet!
