Firsts in Life

Junior Junior here has experienced another "first" in life by cutting hay all by himself.  He did have assistance from his Moma both in the cab for a few rounds and over the two way radio.  For his first cutting he did very well, there are a few "test strips" of hay left standing. Maybe he was adjusting the radio or moving the air conditioner vents?? I know a girl who began working wheat ground at 12, I bet her Daddy found a few "test strips"  behind her as well. Junior Junior will have another "first" next week when the dentist will pull a tooth which is protruding from the side....

Slick Hills

My "good" horse kicked the bucket about 2001, she was a bay with a pretty good cow sense about her.  She was also prone to bucking when the need arose and therefore did not always live up to her name--- Lady.  But, I cried anyway like a big ol' baby when I found her dead.  Fast forward to 2010 where I have commandeered oldest child's horse "Trigger" for a ride in the Slick Hills.  Trig is my kind of horse, short to the ground, a bit fat and not a bit interested in spooking.  It hurt to hit the ground a long time ago....probably hurts much more now!  Don't wish to prove that hypothesis on my 44 yo bones.  We had a good time, no broken bones nor rattlesnake sightings.   Oldest on "Dipstick", myself & Trigger in the middle and youngest on "Chester" to the right.

Black Betty

All of our vehicles have names.  Black Betty is hubby's pick up.  It is a black dodge with a new Hoswell Hay bed made by our friend Jerry Renshaw.(small plug, Google Hoswell Hay beds, Elgin, Oklahoma)  It also sports a big ol' feed box....which makes a completely different noise than our old one does, it scared the cows at first, but they are no longer worried and will come for vittles at any time.  Well,  back to Black Betty, like my computer she is sick and is currently in intensive care in an Oklahoma City Dodge hospital.  Thank goodness she has not surpassed her warranty as Black Betty does not have governmental health care and she does not want it!!!  She should be home by next Wednesday.  We are getting a rental car courtesy of the Intensive Care Dodge dealer....I bet we won't be able to load the diesel tank in it!!
*Disclaimer:  That is an illegal alien driving BB, it couldn't be our 11 year old kid who does not possess a drivers license-but he does possess an innate ability for seat, stearing wheel and radio adjustment.

The JD 500 Continues

My computer has been gone.  Still gone.  Mr. Consultantman aka Mr. Hay Balerman brought his laptop home from work, so here I am once again among the living.  We have been baling hay, and cutting hay and baling some more hay.  So, off I go to bale again...

Thank you all for the facebook bday wishes.

The JD 500

The John Deere 500 is on....as long as it doesn't rain.  Everybody who has wheat hay down is busy..hurrying to get it in.  Most of it is in, except ours on Willies.  Big fat nice thick windrows....trying their hardest to dry in this humid land of ours.  Hopefully it will bale soon!

Farming on Sunday

The Eleventh Commandment in farm life is basic....Thou Shall Not Farm on Sunday.
Parties of this part hath broken that Commandment and thus they shall not make hay today.  Rain is forecasted for the next seven days...we need to make hay while the sun shines!!
To answer a comment question...a swather seat...just the seat inside the swather, an implement that cuts hay which we then bale for cattle.

Flossie #3

An athletic pose for Flossie #3, the yet to be named 3rd show heifer of Eldest Child.  Hubby has called her "The Inferno" and "800#s of Fun in the Sun".  Hopefully she isn't quite #800 nor an inferno.  We don't want to see our child flying about like a kite on the end of her lead rope.  She is a bit large to be halter breaking, but hopefully she'll fall in love with her feeder boy soon and learn to lead.  Here he is trying to woo her, trying to encourage her to stop running away and to stand quitely in a nice show calf pose.  Must have wax in her ears....

HAY

Getting ready to cut wheat hay. Haycutter Man, Grease Absorbing Boy and Mort the oil jug thief were busy the other day getting the "Chariot" ready to go to the field.  The Chariot is a wonderful piece of equipment, it slices and dices quite nicely...until the undisclosed driver swaths a rock, old fence post or calf carcass....most are already dried up....no too much yuk factor.  Hope your dog doesn't steal your oil jug today!!!

Blooming & Bucking

It might be Kentucky Derby Day, but here in Haycutter Oklahoma it's The Blooms & The Buckin' Day!  The locust trees are in full bloom and smell divine.  Our rose bush, iris and peony are in all stages of bloom.  Too bad the wind has blown 400 mph around here lately...it sure it hard on pretty little flowers!  But, the biggest bloomer and bucker of the day...Strawberry!  She cut loose and blossomed right up and down, left and right and plop...went her rider.  The rider in question rooted up some sandrock with his forehead. He says that Strawberry is for sale...she isn't.  She is due a few miles. Just enough to get the bloom out of her.
